Essential Qualification

  • Stenographer (Lower Grade):
    • University Degree: You must have a degree from a recognized University. (Preference is given to Law Degree holders). However, if you have 3 years of experience in Stenography, this degree condition may be relaxed.
    • Shorthand Speed: You must have passed the English Shorthand Examination with a speed of 80 w.p.m. or above.
    • Typing Speed: You must have passed the English Typing Examination with a speed of 40 w.p.m. or above.
    • Computer Proficiency: You need a certificate in Computer knowledge (like MS-CIT, CCC, or from institutes like NIIT, APTECH, etc.) showing proficiency in Word Processors (Windows and Linux). Note: If you passed GCC-TBC English Typing 40 w.p.m., you do not need a separate computer certificate.

Selection Process

  1. Shorthand Test (40 Marks): You will get a dictation of a passage in English (400 words) for 5 minutes. You have to transcribe it in 25 minutes. Passing marks are 20.
  2. Typing Test (40 Marks): If you pass the Shorthand Test, you will take a Typing Test. It involves typing a passage of 400 words in 10 minutes on a computer. Passing marks are 20.
  3. Viva-voce (20 Marks): If you qualify in the Typing Test, you will be called for an interview.
