The National Testing Agency (NTA) has released the notification for the University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC-NET) for December 2025. This test determines eligibility for Assistant Professor and Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) in Indian universities and colleges. The online application process starts on 07/10/2025 and the last date to apply is 07/11/2025. The age limit for JRF is not more than 30 years as of 01/12/2025. Age relaxation is provided for reserved categories like OBC-NCL, SC, ST, PwD, Third gender, and women applicants by up to 5 years. There is no upper age limit for applying for Assistant Professor or for admission to a Ph.D. program.

Essential Qualification
- For JRF and Assistant Professor
    
- Master’s Degree with 55% marks.
 - 50% marks for SC, ST, OBC, PwD, Third gender.
 - Candidates in their final year can also apply.
 
 - For JRF and Ph.D. Admission
    
- 4-year Bachelor’s Degree with 75% marks.
 - 70% marks for reserved categories.
 - Candidates in their final year can also apply.
 
 
Selection Process
- The selection is based on the Computer Based Test (CBT).
 - The exam has two papers with no break in between.
 - Paper 1: 100 Marks for Teaching/Research Aptitude.
 - Paper 2: 200 Marks for the subject chosen by the candidate.
 - There is no negative marking for wrong answers.
 - The total duration of the exam is 3 hours.
