Selection Process
- Preliminary Examination:
- Nature: Objective Type (OMR Based). Screening test only.
- Subjects: General Studies (Degree Std. - 175 Qs), Aptitude & Mental Ability (SSLC Std. - 25 Qs).
- Total Questions: 200.
- Maximum Marks: 300.
- Duration: 3 hours.
- Minimum Qualifying Marks: 90 for reserved categories, 120 for Others. (Marks not counted for final ranking).
- Main Written Examination:
- Nature: Descriptive Type.
- Paper I: Tamil Eligibility Test (SSLC Std.) - Qualifying Only (100 Marks, 3 hours, Min. 40 marks). (Differently abled may have exemption).
- Paper II: General Studies I (Degree Std.) - 250 Marks, 3 hours.
- Paper III: General Studies II (Degree Std.) - 250 Marks, 3 hours.
- Paper IV: General Studies III (Degree Std.) - 250 Marks, 3 hours.
- Minimum Qualifying Marks (Papers II, III, IV): 225 for reserved categories, 300 for Others.
- Note: Papers II, III, IV evaluated only if Paper I is cleared. General Studies questions in Tamil and English.
- Interview:
- Nature: Oral Test.
- Maximum Marks: 100.
- Minimum Qualifying Marks: None.
- Final Selection: Based on total marks in Main Examination (Papers II, III, IV) and Interview (Total 850 Marks), subject to reservation rules.
- Certificate Verification & Medical Exam: Physical standards required for DSP post.
How to Apply
- First, complete the One Time Registration (OTR) on the TNPSC website if you haven't already. This costs Rs. 150 and is valid for 5 years. Keep your scanned photo and signature ready. Linking Aadhaar is mandatory. Use a valid, active email ID and mobile number. Access the OTR platform via www.tnpscexams.in.
- Log in using your OTR credentials. Find the notification for Combined Civil Services Examination – I (Group I Services) - Notification No. 04/2025.
- Click the "APPLY" button next to the notification.
- Your OTR details will pre-fill. Check them carefully. If changes are needed, edit your OTR profile first.
- Fill in any additional details required specifically for the Group 1 application. Upload a recent photograph (taken on or after 01/04/2025) with your name and date printed at the bottom, as per specified dimensions and format.
- Upload required documents supporting your claims (education, community, age, PSTM, disability, etc.) when asked for, typically after clearing prelims.
- Preview your application details carefully before final submission. An SMS/email confirmation of the preview will be sent.
- Proceed to pay the Preliminary Examination fee (Rs. 100) online via Net Banking/Credit Card/Debit Card, unless you are eligible for and claiming a fee exemption. Choose the fee concession option ('Yes' or 'No') carefully.
- After successful payment, an Application Number/ID will be generated. Note this down for future reference.
- Submit the application finally by clicking the ‘SUBMIT’ button before the deadline of 30/04/2025, 11:59 PM.
- Use the Application Correction Window (05/05/2025 to 07/05/2025) if you need to edit details after submission. No changes are allowed after this window closes.
