Test Papers and Age Limit
This test is conducted for two papers. Paper I is for teachers of classes I to V and Paper II is for teachers of classes VI to VIII. The age criteria are mentioned below.

The minimum age for applicants is 18 years as of 01/07/2025. There is no upper age limit to apply for the TNTET examination.

Essential Qualification
- For TNTET Paper I (Classes I to V)
- Higher Secondary with at least 50% marks and a 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education.
- Or Higher Secondary with 50% marks and a 4-year Bachelor of Elementary Education (B.El.Ed.).
- Or Higher Secondary with 50% marks and a 2-year Diploma in Education (Special Education).
- For TNTET Paper II (Classes VI to VIII)
- Graduation and a 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education.
- Or Graduation with at least 50% marks and a Bachelor in Education (B.Ed.).
- Or Graduation with 50% marks and B.Ed. (Special Education).
- Any candidate with a qualified B.Ed. program recognized by NCTE is eligible.
A relaxation of up to 5% in qualifying marks is allowed for reserved category candidates.
Test Pattern and Qualifying Marks
- The exam will be an OMR-based test.
- It consists of 150 Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs).
- The total duration of the examination is 3 hours.
- Candidates must score the minimum qualifying marks to pass.
- General category needs 90 marks to qualify.
- Reserved categories (SC, BC, etc.) need 82 marks.
- ST category needs 60 marks (one-time concession for 2025).
